Are back on... (in daylight), Home from work, a bite to eat then out on the bike for 4pm for 2-4 hours a couple of nights through the week or when weather is good,
The good thing riding at this time is apart from Busy Roads full of Commuters, you usually never meet anyone on the coast or in woods...
With a few old buildings to photo for the other blog before everything greens up there are plenty places to visit,
I don't write much about my other Surly Bike,a 29er Karate Monkey but i love this bike esp for midweek cycling where a bit road work is needed, tonight 6 miles to Gosford Estate, had the 29er for 2 Years now and it fits the bill for bombing about on road and off road,i headed for Gosford Estate where i grew up to revisit an old House...
Down the old Right of Way...
And Timber!!!...big Beech tree had come down...look at all that firewood -:)
Hungary House was the Estates Gamekeepers House and Kennels until 1989/90 when the Last Estate Gamekeeper Peter Rennick Retired and moved.
Abandoned and sadly vandlised and plundered for scrap it is derelict now...
The House has happy memorys for myself having lived up there at weekends and Holidays with friends helping out with the Pheasant rearing and also shooting and as teenagers driving tractors, landrovers and motorbikes around the Estate (on Patrol)
You can read more about the ruin and see a wee film on the other blog;
No Through Road
South of the House is an old Lime Kiln, its quarry now filled with water but has an interesting story...
Pre recycling days all the old cars and landrovers that Peter got given (MOT Failures) or bought cheap for running around the estate were dumped in here, i know because i saw loads of stuff pushed in by the old fergie tractor, lots of old Morris 1000s,Vauxhall vivas,landrovers,4 old C90s loads of old pushbikes etc..
Peter said old steam lorries from Guys Haulage Depot (which later became the now closed and rebuilt Aberlady Garage) were dumped in here, if they ever drain it it would make a cool photo,
But i hate to think of the enviromental pollution caused,
You can see an upside down car wheels just poking out...
In some rubbish is an old early Landrover Air filter...
And nearby an Austin 1100 engine...
Back on the bike and more woodlands tracks through Luffness into Drem Airfield,
And again a chance for photos of old remaining WW2 RAF Drem buildings that were hidden during summer last year, update on RAF Drem on NTR blog soon...
Around the perimeter road and east towards home...
Another dream house- Fenton Tower...
Lovely evening...
And home before dark...

I love this time of year Trevor, before the nettles and undergrowth are up,if like the last few days its dry then trails are lovely to ride, and we often get lovely sunsets this now..
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you don't need anyone to tell you that you live and ride in a fantastic part of the world. I always look forward to reading your blogs - sometimes I wait until Saturday morning to read them - that's when I have time set up my laptop on pillows while still in bed, with my morning coffee. Its always a great way to start my weekend. Today though, I just thought I would have an early treat, as its only Wed!
