Saturday the 15th of September is Battle of Britain Day...
Were going by train to the Annual RAF Leuchars Air Show across in Fife which is on the same day as the anniversary on Saturday this year which will celebrate the date along with the Jubilee and it should be a great day out.
A giant from the Cold War - The B52 Stratofortress is flying along with another on static display.
The Vulcan bomber is flying, the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain memorial flight.
Be great to see a Hurricane flying again as well as a Spitfire. Fingers crossed for the Lancaster to fly but it will likely be the Dakota C47...
We pay respect to those young airmen who in the summer of 1940 did an unbelievable thing against the odds to turn the tide of a world war which would in time lead to victory in Europe and the world we live in freedom today.
Churchill described them as `The Few` and they were backed by a nation...
The Battle of Britain images often show pictures and film of young men running to their aircraft...
The biggest air battle in history would unfold above the eyes of the public of southern England over the summer of 1940...
I have already blogged Battle of Britain Day... and also made a film of the most famous plane ever made which has become an icon of the Battle of Britain,
The Supermarine Spitfire...
And the sacrifice made by the young men of Bomber Command
However busy you are on Saturday stop and give a minutes thought to these young men.
They came to the UK in 1940 from all round the Commonwealth world to serve, and for some payed the ultimate sacrifice so we are here today to live our lives in freedom...
Massive respect...
Excellent. Had one for Sunday locked in for a few weeks myself.
