Sunday`s `Mini Beast from the East` at North Berwick...
Saturday night and the wind blew like crazy as forecasted with 40 mph onshore winds as the `Mini Beast from the East` blasted the east coast. Down south snow blocked roads and caused travel problems. Up here the snow was thawing pretty much as it landed and we only had an inch or so lying in the morning. Unknown to me was what the last two high tides pushed with the onshore gale and big surge had done to the coast...
(am low tide and up up early i was down and along the coast for a look around and the east beach at NB looked pretty blasted with a lot of blown sand up on the east road...
Road sweeper will be busy tomorrow...
Huge rollers came in outside the harbour...
And along the west beach i saw what these big waves pushed in by the big surge and onshore gale had done, loads of sand was gone!...
The pipe and bases of the steps from residents gardens is now totally devoid of sand as the coast here has been scoured of sand...
Enjoying the tail wind assisted Gale i cruised on past Point Gary and more new dunes at the high tide line created in the last couple of years have been washed out...
All here used to be sand!...
No debris here after the last few high tides...
This area of rocks i have not seen before, a new (rideable) section!...
Loads of creels and lines washed in along the coast...
At Broadsands as expected a lot of wind drift formed dunes have now gone...
Out at where we filmed for BBC Countryfile a few weeks ago exposed in the low tide was a complete WW2 Anti Glider pole on it`s side.
Part of the `Coastal Crust` defences hastily constructed in 1940 after the evacuation of Dunkirk and the Britain of Britain was fought in the skies overhead the coasts were quickly prepared for an expected invasion,
Fidra was taking a pounding with big waves, the roar of the water was amazing...
I rode on to Archerfield and from here would ride inland and get out the biting cold Easterly Gale as i zig zagged back to NB...
Here is some film,
