GFBD 7th Dec 2013; The Aftermath...

We had a great Saturdays ride on the coast. 13 riders rode west from the Celtic Cross at North Berwick heading along the coast for Gullane. Yeah 13...

The North Berwick witch Trials of 1590 are famous as being the first of a series of witch trials in Scotland by King James VI. The fate that those condemned woman met after trial at Edinburgh`s Tollbooth was near to the very spot we always meet now to ride from. Their story is well known around here of dozens of woman who were burned alive tied to a stake....

So yeah 13 riders was tempting fate... esp from the cross...bound to be cursed to have mishaps...
and we had a few hold ups and mishaps suggesting that maybe we were cursed by those who once suffered here...
But we leave no one on the beach and soldiered on after a broken chain, then later a puncture,  then i got a huge  stick that nearly wrecked my rear mech-it would have deft snapped an alloy mech hanger!, then another bikes rear tyre flatted and my can or aerosol tyre foam failed to repair it!, but we just stopped on the beach, all got stuck in and got the bike fixed and rolling.
That's what we do as friends, we all, if we can muck in... new friendships were bonded as we stood around or helped out. Memories of days shared cycling are more ingrained than any pictures or film can do...

This is fatbiking as it always has been here on our coast of East Lothian - not like  your typical road groupie ride where slower people get dropped and left behind. And mechanicals get left behind to self repair then get home on their own steam...
I only ask folk to bring a tube and tools to self repair issues-any more help is always there from us, as we did on Saturday.
13 bikes rolled back into North Berwick for fish and chips at Deano`s before sunset...

Some of us met up again in the evening at the Ship Inn for a few drinks and had a good laugh, as you do!,
Mikes drunk Yoga demonstration had to be seen and will slip into North Berwick Fatbike history!,
we have a saying; "What happens in the Ship Inn stays in the Ship"

Good times with friends... Life is Good... -)

Due to the flat light from the overcast light i never tried to film, i just took some pics behind over my shoulder and when we were stopped.

Roll the pics...

See you next time...

  1. Some good pics there Bruce, looks like I missed an enjoyable day out on the coast. Will try to get down to NB over Christmas if you're out and about.
