Into Autumn...New winter Boots, Work Jeans, and Surly Karate Monkey Drop bar 29er musings...

Mid October and there is an Autumn chill in the air now!,
Some lovely Autumn days this week, cooler this week on the ride into work...

This week at work has been typical Autumn weather of blue sky, broken and fluffy clouds and lovely light...

Been cycling to work this week on the Black Surly Karate Monkey,
This frame set has had quite a few builds:
Rigid forks, then suspension forks, then back to rigid,
Regular 29er wheels and lately 50mm wide Surly Rabbit hole wheels, then back to the Halo 29er rims!,
MTB rider bars,  Cyclo-cross drop bars and now Salsa Woodchipper semi drop bars,
Bar end shifter 3x9, single speed, and back to 3x9 gears with STI shifters!

Well finally it has been built and will stay like this in a Monster-Cross build,

Post ride detours home from work...

Surly Work Jeans;
Been needing a thick winter work trouser i can cycle in, and hey presto these have turned up by Surly!

With the seam cut for cycling these are real comfy...

They have popper studs to pull in the crank side leg which is neat...

I will do a review of the jeans after a few months use, but i can so far say these jeans are real comfy and ace!
And check out the new shoes! :)

Shimano MT91 Winter Boots;
After 9 years faithful service my old Shimano MT90 boots have had their day with the soles now warped after miles and miles of cycling. So i bought the replacement MT91 boot last week...

SPD compatible these are a sweet combo with Time pedals...

A good addition to the cycling shoe rack, these will get a review after a few months use...

Autumn, a time of leave strewn trails...

And loads of berries around and mushrooms in the woods, but watch what you eat that you find while out cycling, film by Surly lol...

Autumn is of course also the Apple Harvest,,,  Cider! :)

And sleeping through the long dark evenings... lol

Back onto the subject of Monkeys, there is another in the cave... better get busy with the spanners...
More soon...

  1. Met a guy riding in the forest last weekend on a Karate-Monkey and we swapped bikes for a while. Both singlespeeds, both with flat pedals - couldn't believe how similar it felt to my Pugsley. Apart from the 800mm wide riser bars I felt right at home, what a neutral-handling bike.

    I could feel the tiny 2.something front tyre understeering a little in the soft stuff, but it was controlled. We are a bit spoiled riding fat, I tend to really load-up the front tyre cornering (On-One Floater) and it just never lets go.

    You will laugh Bruce, it's the first time I've ridden a hard-tail with a suspension fork!

  2. Hi Antoine, good to hear from you again,
    I too love the ride of the Karate Monkey as i it a similar ride to the Pug despite the tyre size, i deft prefer muy KM with the slaker 1mm offset headset that slows the steering just a little, i need another of these headsets now i will be rolling with two Monkeys now!,
    The suss fork is nice with the MTB bar set up on a hardtail,
