Sunday is Fargo Day...

Out on Sunday for a planned 50 miles around East Lothian on the Fargo, but was cut to 26 miles due to rain, lots of rain!
It was forcasted but just as a couple of showers, it was whole water falling!.
Been the story for most of this week with exception of Tuesday evening and a stunning sunset/coastal night ride (next post)...

Flask of coffee for later -:) ...

Onto the country roads, popular with cyclists as quiet,,,

Heavy rain heading my way...

Whittinghame Tunnel makes an ideal shelter from the rain....

`So why exactly are my 100% waterproofs in my pannier at home?`...

Eventually it eases and onto roads along the hill foots....

Hillbilly shacks... if you hear banjos a playing pedal faster!...

Mint old Ford 3000 is still here at Stoneypath...

Down into the wee village of Garvald , and a walk around the old church...

Before community Service and ASBOs we had the `jougs` here in Scotland.
An iron neck collar for wrong doers...
Bring em back as bet they work!...

Wall mounted sundial is dated 1633...

18th C grave stones...

Lovely old buildings here...

Leaving the village and a spot of off roading on an old disused road which is marked as  `Skid Hill` on old OS maps...

This tight hairpin is maybe why it was given its name. Tarmac is visible still underneath and the old concrete posts and metal rail from years ago...

It leads past this object in the field...

If your new to reading my blog and have not seen one of these it is a relic from the Cold War...

This film i made here a few years ago explains what it is...

With the heavens about to open i decided to just head for home as already getting a chill from the previous shower...

Today's ride taught me a few things, i need to always carry my waterproofs!, and i need a replacement pair of Shimano MT90 goretex cleated boots as my 7 year old pair have seen better days...
And i have no regrets building this bike for Sundays like this... -:)

  1. Great post. The Fargo looks the business on the old tracks. If things come together, the LHT could be rolling this weekend. See you on the road skag...

  2. Love the film. That's brilliant! Have you seen the pics that Ben Cooper at Kinetics took of Royal Ordnance at Bishopton? Fascinating stuff.

The Fargo is a great bike. I rode mine today and love it. it's the kind of bike that makes you want to go on mini adventures and just makes you smile!
