The harvest is nearly all done around here, slowly the fields turn brown one by one as they are disc harrowed/ploughed and sowed with the next seasons crop...
Autumn has arrived in cooler days, our first frosts this week, and trees starting to turn golden brown.
Autumn also see`s more early morning mist which i love to see as i cycle to work...
Meanwhile on two wheels...
Was out on the Surly Cross-Check the other evening having dropped the car off at the garage for the dreaded MOT, missing the Alfine hub gear on this bike, the single speed has to be either road geared or off road geared and either way it does not work that good for the opposite. ie road gearing is too hard off road and standing up just spins the rear wheel out... SS is deft best on a pacific off road bike or specific road bike... Hopefully i can afford another Alfine 8 hub soon, i still have the rim and spokes to build it!...
ECR - `East Coast Reality`...
Rode the ECR to work one day last week, Funny thing about the Autumn mist is you see it in the distance, then you ride there and it`s gone, then you look behind you and it`s where you just rode! lol
Detour home to collect car and i really like the ECR, quite different to the new built Krampus 29+
Surly Krampus Update; Got all the parts need to finish the Krampus and a commute with detour ride home today made sure it is all sorted for this Saturday...
Managed to get the warped (New!) 180 disc rotor running good and true, and fitted new mudguards-the ones on it were borrowed from another bike...
After work i took a detour home via North Berwick on a few remaining harvested stubble fields that have not had manure spread on them or been disc harrowed yet...
From the Heugh you are nearly at the same height as the wee reservoir on the Law so you may as well push/ride up where you can manage and soak up the views up top...
Nearly there!...
Pics taken and views soaked up the descent does not take long and i headed for home via the John Muir Way and a few fields...
Won`t be many days left for riding stubble fields, but it has been good this harvest for cycling...
Back home and 29+ wheels fitted onto the Pugsley (now a KramPug) and all 3 bikes ready for this weekend. I am lending the ECR and KramPug to friends Craig and Brian for the 1st Uk(world?) 29+ / Half Fat gathering. Organised by friend Steven who i met when we went riding at Carnoustie the `Scottish Slimmers` 29+ / Half Fat meet is at Pitmedden Forest in Fife this Saturday 15th October at the Clink Car park at Pitmedden Forest, a few regular MTBs and Fatbikes are going also. It should be a fun day with a good turn out of folks...
More soon...
