If you cannot wheelie this bike after a few months ownership then you need to go take up playing Golf or something... It is a real treat to ride and it`s wheelie balance point on the 29+ wheel with short chain stay is so easy!, Ok i know i can wheelie a bike easy as been doing it since i was 14 years old, Now at 44 years old i am no spring chicken on a bicycle compared to the youngsters but this bike makes you feel good/younger when you ride it...
Just looking down at that slack head angle it feels like a naughty boy wanting to mis-behave and be ridden like a hooligan...
It will never be a 24" BMX, or a flick able 26" hard tail jump bike or 4X bike like my Kona Cowan i once owned with wound down Pike forks which could do stuff like this X-up easily;
It could do this easy though, oh i just found this ace pic and wanted to post it up!....
Or is it a full suspension MTB that can cover rough ground real quick, Not like here in this pic but a great pic of a long gone wall ride at Glentress where the full suspension of the Santa Cruz Heckler i once owned allowed the grip to do this easily...
I went through 3 KM`s and a few other bikes before i have ended up with my Surly ECR and the Krampus.
I can blog about these bikes soon and their different rides although same 29+ wheel size and tyres...
No it is a simple low volume, low maintenance 1 x 10 speed Ridged MTB that can if aired down ride the coast too as well as sandy single track trails, and turn it`s hand to a fun bike to ride out the saddle on technical trails be it rocks, roots, or single track, as well as MTB trail centres...
In the meantime here is a wee film i shot this afternoon in the woods.
No idea who the song is by but it is from a MTB soundtrack i burned to the pc a while ago, sure it was on the `STATEMENT` MTB film from 2003...
Surly Krampus - Quick blast through the woods... from coastkid71 on Vimeo.
More soon...
Enjoy the Krampus. I find it handles the long distance stuff really well not just the singletrack shredding.
ReplyDeleteSurly did a great job on this bike. It's really standing the test of time.
Hi Vik, It is indeed an lovely bike to ride, Although i also have the ECR with Loops and Alfine i will prob do some bike packing also on the Krampus, esp when there is some techie faster riding!
ReplyDeletePost up a comparo once you have ridden the K-pus a bunch.
ReplyDeleteWill do, and will also add the KramPug into the mix :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a ton of fun, can't wait to get mine up and going next year (although that's going to take some time / money).
ReplyDeleteLoved the video, stubby little stem you're using.

H i Antonine, yep real short stem really suits this bike!, makes it feel great when you point it down a steep chute and your right back over the rear wheel. Loving this bike already after only a few rides!
