Return of the Sea Haar...

It came from the sea.. no not the rubbish 2005 remake! but the original by Director John Carpenter

One of my favourite films is the classic cult 1980 film  `The Fog`...
Instead of posting the trailer here is the making of the film, and how this 1980`s classic came about...

Today dawned a clear sky but within a half hour when i rode to work a sea Haar rolled in...
This occurs when cooler sea air is blown onshore and meets warmer air inland,
It can be pee soup thick and soaking wet, or like this morning waves of a dry cloud like mist drifting by...

Throughout the morning the sun was trying to burn through and produced an amazing light...

Funny thing is it can be like this on the East coast, while 5 miles inland it is a clear blue sky!,
Delivery drivers said of the good weather in Haddington  on the other side of the Garleton hills!

Here are some older pics from previous blog posts of Sea Harr on the coast...

Fog, Sea storms, and history documented into folklore...
Famous Author Robert Lewis Stevenson wrote books while here in East Lothian at Seacliff.
A book he wrote in 1892 titled  `The Wreckers` was based on tales he was told of `The Pagans of Schoughall` who lured boats in storms onto the rocks by walking a horse with a lantern tied on a rope between the horses neck and and a front leg,   slowly walking the horse along the cliff tops would look like to a boat out at sea in a storm seeking sanctuary of a boat at safe anchor bobbing in sheltered waters, the boat would then run aground as it came into the shore on the Carr rocks and the plundering  by the goulish people would then take place...

So real or not you can imaging such things taking place here on the coast when you live here and know the local history...

If your interested in this kind of stuff a previous blog post tells of East Lothian own version of a Whisky Galore type happening...

East Lothian`s Own Whiskey Galore Story...
