A beach ride around John Muir Park...

Not been around John Muir Park for a while, i always do this ride on my winter weeks holidays. Its a ride i really enjoy as John Muir Park is always so quiet during the week, and its a ride where i appreciate the solitude when out around the point of Spike Island at the river Tyne Estuary...
Today i rode from the house, along the river tyne from East Linton and into the bay...
A friend was saying how he likes to see loads of pics, well you will like this post -:)

Knowes Ford, not been shallow enough to safely cycle through for months...

Look at the flooding in the fields....

Now part of the John Muir Way which follows the East Lothian coast, this old track was once used to transport seaweed from the coast for agriculture. Hence the roads name of `Ware Road` on older maps, a common name for roads along the coast. There is a Ware Road still in North Berwick.
You can read some history on seaweed used in agriculture here...

The Buist banking was built by POWs of the Napolionic War to drain the land for agriculture...

Great information signs...

More WW2 coastal crust relics, Anti tank blocks...

Nice singletrack here above the tide line...

Don`t know what this WW2 building was, but does not look like it was a Machine Gun Pill box...

Into  this banking was once a firing range and as a kid i found bullets here with my dad.
They were Martini - Henry  bullets, which dates from the 1870s.
I need to return with the metal detector...

Onto the coast at the Beil Burn at Hedderwick....

Been more erosion here from recent high tides...

Remains of a WW2 Coastal Defence Magine Gun Pill Box...

A lot of new potential firewood has been washed down in the bay from the river Tyne, I think another day hauling wood with the trailer is on the cards!...

Out around Spike Island, no one around, biting cold wind, drifting sand,  paradise!...

More Lobster creels washed up...

Was a wild roaring sea...

A wind assisted cruise down into Belhaven Bay...

When the sun came out between clouds it was stunning light...

Kite surfer out making the most of the conditions...

There seemed to be a theme today with blue gloves washed up, saw 7 or 8...

Around Belhaven Bay and back across to the Woods...

And some sandy singletrack...

Forgot how good the trails are here. Forestry work has started so some trails are unrideable as the woods are getting thinned out...

Only Mid affy but time to head for home...

Back at the Buist Banking and i took 10 mins to sit and soak up the scenery, listen to the waders out in the bay, and smile at that blue sky...

Here is 40 secs of film of a 360 view at the point, a special part of coastline i love to visit...

I took the dog for a walk there this afternoon. Started following FatTracks at the burn out to the point and along the beach. Wondered if it was you as I could see the places where you had stopped. 'bet it's CK taking photos' I thought.
bit of a mess where they're thinning the trees. Hopefully temporary.
